I actually thought it’s a case of asari agents not even being aware they are doing any data gathering rounds. A case of inverted sleeper agents I’d call that.

Ha! Good one with Mike. Grim Reaper Saracino is cool, aloof and never gave a frak about conventions.

Meh, about Kyle. Sorry, or not, can’t really get behind the hype of the Lion of Mindoir mostly because his action at the end of his life. It’s similar in a fashion to the opening chapter of the saga where Shepard pretty much murdered the asari maiden a part that got retconed to make it a definite mercy killing.

Kyle whatever else should get some comeuppance for the BS with blowing his base and killing a bunch of no-names doing their job.

I like Rachel and the motivations behind her actions so I’m rather chill with how’s been portrayed.

Ahern and the fanbase he garnered stems mostly from the abject lack of angst on his part. Truth be told I doubt working for the guy in IR would be fun. I’m pretty sure it would end up with fuckton of HR meetings for the staff and led straight to lawsuit for mobbing. The guy’s a dick but as long as we’re only reading about him getting on someone’s case it’s fun.

As for Anderson? Ha! Forget it, Logical Premise. There’s no unholy levels of rage. i have a lot of problems with the guy but I’ll freely admit that my perception of David Anderson is heavily colored by how he was presented in the games. Just remembering that self-fellating tone of voice in the opening arc of the Citadel DLC has me rolling my eyes. And let’s not even start about the opening dialog from the ME3:

    *Shit’s hitting the fan!*
    Shepard: It’s the Reapers.
    Anderson: We don’t know.
Shepard: Of course. How stupid of me? It could be the the space gumi bears.
Anderson: Good man, Shepard. I knew the party could count on you.

Getting back to Ahern. He flat out tells Shepard that the situation is a blender of misery and shame but so what? He’s still going to serve the people of the SA to the best of his abilities.

What does Shepard do? Goes and call David… and I’m going to stop right now.

Ahern. He’s a caustic bastard but a real joy to read. And that no angst. Mmmmm.

Still, they are the Legacy Team. They saved the SA. They earned their place in history. No doubt about that.

I’m more interested about the fall out of Anderson’s team. Seems it was a total Charlie Foxtrot.

I can’t reply fully right now(time grrr) but I will say that I agree with you about Preston Kyle and how his life ended:

I don’t buy this ‘dying in glorious revelation’ claim Anderson spoke. To me his final stand was half psychotic rampage, half child’s temper tantrum…

I just can’t respect the man. He literally murdered god knows how many marines just to make an impression. The fact that Shepard pretty much shrugged in the aftermath of Presrop is one of the things that infuriate me about her.

But if my problems with Kyle’s actions are in the backseat the entirety of my problems with the figure of David Anderson eclipse everything else. But since this isn’t a topic about Anderson I’ll restrain myself.

    More coming soon…

Not surprising. Though I suspected it would be a commissar who did her in.

Shepard’s role in Cerberus under Rachel would not have been one of leadership, but as executioner. Rachel was smart enough to realize Shepard’s flaws and limits, and would have used her in a role where such narrowminded thinking and ignorance would have been armor against being turned back against Cerberus.

That’s even more sad. Being reduced or merely relegated(she did pretty much just this for the SA) to the role of attack dog – bad pun there.

I wouldn’t want to come of as unreasonable critic of Sara Shepard but the MC from the beginning of the series was a complete and utter mess of contradictions, insecurities and budging paranoia that her CO was out to get her.

Iron Cell led by Shepard would only make an even greater mess of the galaxy than it was at the start of the series.

While I consider myself a fan of Rachel Florez I don’t really think she would be able to draw Shepard’s full potential as an officer. Let’s just reminiscent how much work Ahern had to do to get through Shepard’s thick skull. She had whole armor plates made of stupid, arrogance, short-sightedness covering her intelligence, or maybe wisdom would be a better word here.

A crippled and even more bitter Shepard, leading the Iron could end only tears and misery. Hell, I think TIM would have had her killed in short order. That’s if she didn’t manage that on her own. Leng and Pel would have a field day with her.

On the other hand maybe she would fit right in and find a place for herself in Cerberus? Who knows, maybe she would do a better job than we expect…

Another reason why GI infantry lasers fell out of use could be the materials used in hardsuits and armor weave production.

GI used their weapons during pacification of Earth but by the time Mass Effect technology rolled in(well after the formation of Solar System Alliance and when the SSA became the Systems Alliance) marines were being issued ME-based weaponry. So I would say the explanation why lasers aren’t used anymore lies in new materials being discovered or new production technologies which stripped infantry laser weaponry of its advantage.

Which would make those weapons little more than fancy flashlights or improvised printers used only to stencil enemy armor with neat patterns. 😉

Or, the SA is a bunch of cheap assholes that persists in sending their armies to die in troves because of cheap armor and even cheaper weaponry.

    I’d say it’s a toss of a coin here.

The chapter is broken into two pieces. So we’ll most likely see the reactions next time.

    I’ll add my two cents.

I think the order in which those files are revealed should be different:

    1. Victor Manswell and his machinations should be the first thing covered. Yes, it’s bad but in the end that’s in the past and the SA and Sara should focus on other things.

    2. Salarians and asari rank stupidity should be next. Again, it’s very damning, but by now spy agencies know everyone is out to get everyone. The only things that gets me here is complete disregard of humanity. Muvai obviously forgot the part where humans will start ramming their ships at FTL into salarian worlds in retaliation. I wasn’t very impressed with Mordin’s sister.

    3. This should be the last thing revealed and used to leave us shocked and worried. Reapers are THE THREAT. They are here to end all life. Them finding out the Hegemony has a Reaper corpse should be a HOLY FUCK! moment of utter horror and despair. We’re talking about billions of soldiers ready to sow chaos across the galaxy. It’s that bad. Yet, this gets lampshaded by Victor by the end of the chapter.

Each of those three things in the graybox is bad and damning but I think Harper and Shepard completely missed the point here.

What Victor did is criminal and unforgivable but c’mon. Reapers. I’m surprised Vigil didn’t pop up to mock them about perspective and priorities.

Actually, now that I think about it. There will be an epic bait-and-switch plot point. Everyone will think batarians and get Reapers when in fact it’s Leviathans.

Wonder how bad the fall-out would be with a return of the Shepard, that is holding up a data-pad with information of Project Novensiles to the Council – I wonder, if anybody will puke or simpy to an ‘evil-mustache-twirl’.

Seeing as the Thirty pretty much did their own NOVENSILES thousands of years ago… and the salarians are even now working on their version… and in both cases someone, somewhere must be aware of it? Cerberus knows the LGM are cheating nature and torquing the evolutionary processes of their race. The consequences of NV going ‘viral’ could potentially bring down the house of cards that is the Citadel Council. Humanity wouldn’t take it lying down and would push back. Notice that in vol 1 of OSABC the Council goes WTF-Silence when Udina starts calling them on their shit when they try to put pressure on the SA in the aftermath of the Thorian an Cerberus incidents. The Big Three aren’t accustomed to some species suddenly telling them to eat crow and take a hike. Humanity’s been pretty much giving them the middle finger and daring them to try something while all the while hinting at what they know about the Big Three.

Swapping genes between humans, asari, salarians, batarians, turians, drell and quarians is easy because they’re all built off of Leviathan DNA patterns scattered around to seed life.

Huh. Any chances Levi’s been trying to sabotage Reapers with processed DNA goo when Reapers are done processing a species?

I was wondering lately how many megatons would it take to destroy and damage a main line Reaper like Sovereign/Nazara and how many would be needed to destroy a destroyer-class Reaper?

I blame the Stargate universe for this kind of questions;). They were throwing turbo-nukes around like confetti in that series.

On the other hand in canon the rich of Illium bought nuclear devices and used them against destroyers.

That’s pretty neat – story-telling-wise. Twisted as hell but also awesome at the same time. Tch, poor Javik. Dude dodged a bullet.

There’s a MAKO conversion with the crew cab swapped to carry saturation missiles that’s about the closest the SA currently has to an artillery platform.

    🙂
See, when you start saying things like ‘saturation missiles’ I start thinking:
    Grad
    or,
    Tos

And then wish we had seen something like that or similar in the fics…

Anyway, thank you for answering my questions.

And yeah, I agree with you that the second Spectre, eventually Shepard’s replacement should’ve been chosen sooner, instead of giving Kaidan or Ashley the Spectre patch when nobody really cares about it anymore because of the goddamned Reaper invasion. It was almost a backhanded insult: here’s your special status, now why don’t you be a good girl/boy and follow Shepard around like a good puppy. We just can be bothered to give you a proper tasking. Tehehe.

Here’s a question spawned by the Multiplayer mode: What’s the deal with Devastator N7 troops chilling out in T5-V Battlesuit in the Premi-verse? We saw Jacob traipsing through Freedom’s Progress in one, so Cerberus has access/blueprints to make one but what about the SA. Ahern was piloting one, I think when he faced Shep, Tali and Liara during the final evaluation on Pinnacle.

I kind of want to see them used widely but at the same time we know from what you’ve told us that N-rates aren’t growing on the trees. Will they be reserved for N-rates or will other types of infantry with proper vocational rating be using them, too?
