A little thought, I had reached, an idea while playing some of the good grimdark WH40K – and namely having to do with Dreadnoughts (The ones where you stick almost dead-people in).

Volus have one thing, that is stated in both canon and in Premise – money, and by the statistics a lot…I think. And as the good ‘ol Manswell had stated, money is good, for it can be used for many things, like to promote your agenda.

As you have spoon-fed some info, about volus buying up Vorcha and ‘likely’ training them into soldiers, with maybe the added flavor of human ‘officers’. So I assume, that the Volus would control the command structure.

But, as we know, sometimes you have to ‘get your hands dirty’ or ‘do it yourself’ moments – and as we can see, Volus aren’t much cut out for that. Unless they are loaded with missiles, in a large ship.

…so introducing a battle/power/exo-suit (named it ‘Decatier’), designed for a Volus. Maybe bought from an asari or turian or other race – something that they may have thought-up, but discarded to the side, because of some ‘technical stuff’. Then modified for a Volus to use, somebody high-ranking or specially made for it.

(Maybe spoken about in the volus section of secret intelligence. Why it was created for that particular race, and what have Volus been buying.

The Volus being hooked-up to the suit, while he is in his suit; exiting his regular suit and then entering the suit; or maybe created and modified genetically with cyberware, like salarian Shieldbreakers, into the suit. (Kinda like the Dreadnoughts from WH40K, and those things can pack a punch)

An hydralic-powered one, or perhaps something along the line of using myomer-muscles, like how the Reaper-Geth were.

(I’m not one into tech-detail or physics – but Minsta or maybe Trellani telling TIM; on how the VDF bought an armored turian battle-suit, outfitted it for a Volus operator and covered it in Silaris armor…well…that doesn’t sound good)

Volus have a lot of money, and it has been seen that the VDF is willing to spend it for gain. Those guys built a Dreadnought in canon-ME3, that was said to be outfitted with full Thanix-cannons everywhere – and we saw, how one gun pwned a Collector ship in two hits; sadly no idea, on how that would have fared against a Reaper. Maybe they could come out with it, in ME3 or late-ME2…or have small fragments or pictures of it, in production or spotted.

So, the Volus exo-suit, called Decatier or something else? Good idea?

The Volus Defense Force will be covered a bit more in detail when I get around to the piece covering them — the short version being I’m not 100% sure how exactly the Volus would handle such a thing.

What passes for volus military tactics is a little shaky when it comes to ground combat. Invading Irune itself is pretty much impossible for any of the council races (even the Reapers should have problems with super-high pressure ammonia atmosphere, FFS) and as such most volus defense concepts are about defending their trade ships and stations.

Stations have so many missiles and torpedoes that closing with them in an openly hostile manner is, as Zaeed would put it, goddamned suicide. Boarding issues and the like are their larger concerns, which is why they chose vorcha, who are natural urban combatants.

The idea of a volus battlesuit is NOT one I’d thought of, so I’d have to give some thought on how it would fit into the VDF’s military paradigm. To be fair, the volus simply aren’t good at tactical thought much at all. Putting them in battle armor certainly removes their vulnerability in close urban combat, and given their size such a suit would not be too much bigger than a krogan, meaning it could fit in ships and stations.

On the flip side, a suit’s weapons would probably do a lot of damage — and volus ships handle decompression EXTREMELY poorly, as you might expect. The whole reason they embraced missiles is that it allows attacks from far outside mass accelerator envelopes, after all.

I’ll think about it. Thank you very much for the idea šŸ˜€

Hmm…never thought of the Volus or Irune that way. Although it would make sense – pressure is bad, as you’ll likely pop like a balloon, if you are in the wrong atmosphere or lack equipment to deal with that.

Maybe have the exosuit, likely outfitted with maybe some omni-claws(stealing from SkyTalon here, sry) or some other nasty melee weapon.

Here comes the question – do Volus’ ships have a similar atmosphere to that of Irune? It would make sense, for a race to build their ships, somewhat similar to the gravity or environment close to their native world.

If that is a yes – then the exosuit, could have some EMP weaponry on the side. Nothing spells ‘crap’, when suddenly a volus fries your suit’ tech – and you’ll realize, that you will pop like a balloon. This stuff is also good against any idiots trying to invade Irune – EMP, suit-failure and the environment takes care of you.

…and now that gave me a third idea. Having the volus-suit, outfitted with some electro-weaponry, it could be a first. (Wonder why, nobody else has tried to weaponize the tazer into something more lethal?)

Grab somebody close and zap them with a million volts of electricity. For long-range, maybe a claw-hook, that you shoot at an enemy and zap. Not sure, how well insulated modern armor is against electric-attacks.

Albeit, being in a suit, made entirely of metal or other analogue – doesn’t spell ‘safe’, when a pissed of volus hooks you onto a power-station and switches the safety off.

..although, it could be a good laugh for Pel – seeing a volus going up against a krogan in melee and then zapping said krogan until he is ‘extra crispy’.
