This discussion is a continuation of a point raised by Burnsidhe, that there were no organic witnesses to Ilos’ destruction, and that the Inusannon race could still be around, preserved in the stone statues.

Anyone is free to jump in on this discussion. I have some skepticism, but I’d like some expansion from Burnsidhe before I start on that.

Well, I can tell you that Ilos is definitely gone, and the star definitely went nova.

I wondered if you were gonna pop in. 🙂

You had made the explicit point that technology couldn’t save the Innusanon, and that making Vigil into a easy source of tech was dramatically unsatisfying. Disabling one end of the Conduit also helps fill a plot hole in ME3.

From within the story, I would have suggested the sudden stop of Geth coming through the Conduit is enough proof. If the Inusannon had the ability to cut off the geth forces before then, it would have been used.

Arguably, Vigil should have destroyed or buried the Conduit as soon as indoctrinated forces were detected. Vigil strikes me as pragmatic to a fault, and I see him having no problem telling Shepard that the Conduit is sealed, every nearly interstellar drive has been sabotaged, and he’ll answer any questions until we all die in a glorious explosion. Alas, the Stations of Canon.

The survival of the Inusannon is terribly interesting, but we’ll have to wait til you’re ready to pull that rabbit out of the hat.

As an engineer with dreams of spaceflight, part of me would mourn the loss of so many advanced spacecraft and technologies, gleaming and unused. I have visions of Liara frantically touching everything, trying to rip some piece off for future examination.

Ilos was a very interesting concept in ME1, but poorly followed through in future games. My head canon has Ilos as the site of a post ME3 skirmish, between Citadel forces, and the Awakened Collectors, who want to recover Prothean DNA and equipment as part of their restoration.

If I may make one request of your story, I do hope you do not wipe the Collectors out entirely. I find the process of the monsters in the night becoming accepted fellow citizens an interesting concept to write about. 🙂

…to be more clear. I never said Ilos was destroyed by the Nova.

      Just that it was ‘gone’.

You grasp quite quickly what should have been an ME plot hole about the Conduit. Consider also that Vigil was the one who turned it ON in the first place … yet did not attempt to destroy it himself.

Again, Vigil is a machine, and is hard coded to ignore or not even consider certain things. And the Inusannon are fucking trolls. This cannot be overstated.

*rereads OSABC chapter 107 & 8 on lunch break*

The Conduit goes BOTH WAYS?! And was built AFTER the Prothean empire collapse?!

I suppose the survival of Ilos “elsewhere” is linked to Vigil having atomic scale precision matter rearrangement capability, yet virtually everything on Ilos is decayed and in ruins? We must keep up appearances?

I see my error in thinking. The Inusannon don’t value the present cycle as more than fodder, which is why they’re willing to let indoctrinated forces use the Conduit. Some leftover Old Ones influence, in making Sovereign dock with the Citadel to battle the Catalyst?

Btw, I’ve mentioned it before, but I must tip my hat to your usage of unreliable narrator when it comes to the perspective of Vigil. Well crafted.

I expect a lot of screaming curses and people re-reading certain sections of OSABC and TWCD as well as Fear Unrelenting when I get to the end of my third ME book, lolz.

Now what’s really going to cook your noddle is just what the Inusannon wanted with a big bunch of geth.

          Hint. Hint.

I do believe you are part Inusannon yourself, good sir.
