Would the idea of gas-detonation grenades be a possibility?
Having grenades, that are filled with a highly volatile liquid, that once released turn into a HIGHLY explosive synthetic liquid, detonating at room temperature or around 5 C.
More weapons for STG. Throwing a small disk into a building, it releasing the liquid which turns into gas and kaboom. Profitable? GDG – Gas-Detonation Grenades.
(Got the idea from a movie; Underworld: Evolution. Where they throw a simple object, it releases a liquid around its area, then ignites it and huge fireball)

If it comes in grenade format the Salarians are all over it.
They do have a handful of gas-type grenades (nerve agents, choking, smoke) and a sort of oxygenation fuel-air explosive.
The main problem with gas-explosive grenades is the stability of the liquid inside. Of course, there are materials (potassium comes to mind) that will just fucking explode if you think about them wrong.
Not to mention, of course, Leng and his crazy astitine explosives.
Purge the alien. Kill the heretic. Suffer not the witch to live.
