Not dead. But probably not writing for a bit.

Mom has lung cancer, small cell. She’s starting chemo, but … even though they caught it early, it doesn’t look good. I’m trying to be positive, but that’s difficult.

Funny. I really don’t have anyone else left in my life. A few cousins, one of whom I’ve left everything to in my will. Most of my close friends died in Iraq or Afghanistan, or have simply moved on to other things.

Work is taking up a lot of my time. Went in at 7 AM today, just now getting home at fifteen till 9 PM. Not a lot of energy to write.

Still some pain — ankle, knee, shoulder. Back is better. Not sure for how long.

I’ll write again as soon as I get any energy to do so, and when I’m in a more … positive mood.

  1. Jesus Christ Henry. I can’t empathize, but my sympathy is being thrown full-force in your general direction. I have no power to affect you, nor any ability to help you, but know that my full support is behind you and that I want to help you in whatever way I can.

I have a few generic phrases of kindness, but I don’t think you want to hear them. Just know that we just want the best for you, and I’m sure the rest of your community does too (apart from those idiots who don’t know how to stop screaming for faster updates). We’re here for you through thick and thin.

    Good luck, buddy.

  2. I’m sorry to hear that, and I hope the doctors are wrong about the prognosis. Take the time you need and be with your mother.

  3. sorry to hear about your mom. and your friends. but if its any consolation. you have us here. and just take your time. i don’t know what else to say, but yea, my thoughts and prayers are with you buddy.

  4. I am sorry to hear about you’re mom. I wish you and you’re mom all the best! I know it sounds kinda hollow from a guy from the internet but feel free to ask if you ever need anything!

  5. This may not mean much but I find joy in your writing. It is something I look forward to at the end of my day. I can’t offer anything else but know there are people out there that do place value in you and your skills as a writer and story teller.

  6. I….. really hope this period of your life is going to get better, but my condolences. If nothing else consider the fact that ur one of the best writers outside the industry and you should have your own team of … Write thought writers? following you around
    So in simple terms
    U is good writer
U is honest about ur views
    Hope ur life gets better

  7. Wow … take all the time you need to get back in the mood for writing. Condolences to you and your mother, hope things get better for you soon. Just remember … deh tinternet wuve u!!!!

  8. I’m very sorry to hear about your mom. The only thing I can offer you right now is encouragement. I work in a cancer center, I see this kind of stuff every day – the people that can keep their spirits up through all the mess of stuff that goes on during something like this are always the ones that come out the best. Best wishes for you both, and many positive thoughts heading your way.

  9. Sorry to hear that, mate. You’ve had a pretty rough time of it, from what I’ve read. Best wishes for a speedy recovery (for both of you!)

  10. Stay strong, my grandfather has been run over twice and is in pretty bad shape, but he keeps on truckin’. Don’t give up, and power through, you can do it.
